ZAHNER, Frank is a native of Germany, born in 1835. He attended school until he came to America in 1848, locating in Delaware. He served an apprenticeship of three years as a blacksmith, then remained two years longer. He removed to New Jersey for one year, thence to the coal regions of Pennsylvania, and afterwards to St. Lawrence county, New York. He remained until the spring of 1871, when he started west. He arrived at Minneapolis during the year, and engaged with the St. Anthony Iron Works Company, where he remained until starting in business for himself, which he did in 1879. He passed three years in the army, having enlisted in the One hundred and Third New York Volunteers. He married Miss Mary Temple, of New York in 1855. They have five sons and two daughters. His residence is on Central Avenue. His carriage shop is located at 118 Main street south-east.

ZERON, Nathaniel was born in Upper Canada, October 9th, 1840. He came to Dundas, Minnesota in 1862, and for two years was engaged in farming. He then began worked for J. S. Archibald in the Dundas flouring mills and remained there seven years. He became a resident of Minneapolis in 1871, and was employed in the Cataract mill; he has been with that term since. He married Miss Lydia Kelso in 1874. They have one child: Cora M. Residence 1518 Twenty-first street south.

ZIMMERMAN, Abraham was born in Schwandi, Switzerland on Nov.27,1837. He married Anna Maria Zimmermann on Apr.22,1855, daughter of Heinrich Zimmermann Nr.79 and Barbara nee Hosli Zimmermann. A son Thomas was born on Jun.9,1858 who came to MN. in 1861 and lived in Brooklyn Township east of Osseo, MN. Abraham enlisted in Hatches Battalion Cavalry of MN. on Feb.31,1864 and mustered out on May 5,1866. They lived in Brooklyn Twp. until 1871 when they traveled by covered wagon called a "Prairie Schooner" to Oscar  Twp. Ottertail County and lived in the covered wagon until a home could be built. Their children were 1. Thomas born on Jan.7,1858 in Schwandi, Switz. Anna Zimmermann daughter of Heinrich and Barbara nee Hosli Zimmermann, died Jun.18,1953 , 2. Margarethe  born Sep. 27,1859 died Oct.17,1859 at Schwandi, 3. Margarethe born Nov.20,1860 died Jan.10,1861 at Schwandi, Switz. 4. Abraham Jr. born Jun.20,1862 at Brooklyn Twp, MN. married Sophia Falmer on Nov.13,1879 and had 10 children, died Oct.22,1891 at Elizabeth, MN. 5. Rudolph born Jan.17,1864 Brooklyn Twp. and married Susanna Spillman in 1894 died in 1939 buried at Blackduck, MN. 6.Margarethe born Aug.10,1868 Brooklyn, Twp. MN. had 2 marriages 1. Henry "Fred" Zimmermann 2. William MacMcgregor. death not recorded., 7. Regula born on Sep.4,1869 at Brooklyn Twp., MN. on Dec.30,1890 married Frank X Sha died in Aug. _?__.8. Casper born Oct.30,1871 at Oscar Twp, MN. died at age 14 in 1885 at Ottertail Co. MN., 9. Fred born on Sep.14,1872 at Oscar Twp. had 2 wives 1. Caroline Song, 2. Bertha Grunewald.  Fred died on Apr.10,1942 at Oscar Twp., MN. 10. Ida born on Oct.15,1875 married John Earl Blesi son of Niclaus and Ida Rosina Nee Zimmerman Blesi. Ida died on Sep. 23,1949 buried at Prairie View Cemetery Wilkin County near Barnsville ,MN. They had 11 children. 11. Samuel born on Jul.4,1877 in Oscar Twp., MN. married Lulu Wylie on Jun.3,1908 died in 1939 in Valley City,No.Dak.They had 4 children, 12. David born on Sep.15,1879 at Oscar Twp., MN. He had 2 wives 1. Elsie Wood 2. Marthea Balkin in 1900 of Fergus Falls, MN. He had 2 children of both wives 4 children total . David died on Oct.9,1951 at Valley City,No. Dakota. and buried at Blackduck, MN. Abraham's Sister Ida in the picture married Niclaus Blesi nrother of Peter Blesi, both are from the New Schwanden Swiss Community. Abraham died on Feb.17,1929 at Rothsay, MN. His wife Anna Maria was born on May 5,1839 at Schwandi, Switz. and died at Blackduck, MN on Dec.31,1921. They are both buried at Blackduck, MN. cemetery.

ZIMMERMAN, FREDERICK HENRY SR. Frederick Henry Zimmerman was born in Schwandi, Switzerland on Aug.1,1862 son of David and Barbara Knobel Zimmermann. He came to the Brooklyn Township area at the age of 18, and was recorded in the 1880 Census as a farm servant or worker. He came to the New Schwanden area in 1884 and married Margaret Blesi in 1886 daughter of Niclaus and Ida Rosina Zimmermann. Fred settled on land bordering Elm Creek and south of Elm Creek Road. There  were two children born of this union, 1. Barbara born on April 19,1887 and married on April 10,1906 to Michael Wild son of Samuel Wild and Verena Schiesser Wild and lived in His fathers homestead on the west side of Goose Lake. They had no children.  2. Frederick Henry Zimmerman born on Apr. 30,1889 in Dayton Township and confirmed at the St. Fridolin Evangelical Lutheran Church of New Schwanden. Fred and His wife Margaret retired about 1912 in  Champlin, MN. Frederick's untimely death was on June 18,1939 in the tornado that went through Champlin and Anoka and is buried in the St. Fridolin Cemetery of New Schwanden. His wife Margaret died on Nov.15,1964 and is at rest in the St. Fridolin Cemetery beside Her husband Frederick.

ZIMMERMAN, FREDERICK HENRY JR.,

Frederick Henry Zimmerman Jr. was born on Apr.30,1889 in Dayton Township of New Schwanden. He was confirmed on Sept.25,1904 at the St, Fridolin Evangelical Lutheran Church of New Schwanden. He married Mathilda LeFleur on Oct.5,1910. They farmed his fathers homestead and sold the farm to the Hennepin County Park Board around 1965 and was allowed to live there as long as they desired. They moved to Champlin in 1973. Fred died on Feb.23,1976 and his wife Mathilda (Tillie) died on July 16,1978. They are both buried in the St.Fridolin Cemetery of New Schwanden. There were 4 children born of this union, 1.Leo born on Mar.9,1914, 2.Roy born on Apr.25,1916, 3.Pearl born on Mar.6,1923 and She died of Polio on Oct.21,1944 and Vernon born on April 2,1926.

ZIMMERMANN, Henry
Henry Zimmermann was born in Schwandi, Switzerland on Oct.18,1855 and he came first to Stillwater, MN. in 1874. He Settled in the Brooklyn Township area in 1879. On Mar.7,1881 He married Anna Knobel, daughter of Martin and Magdalena nee Scheisser Knobel. Anna was born in Schwandi, Switzerland on Aug.20,1863. They 1 child named Martin born in 1882 and died in 1894 at age 12. Henry died on Feb.21,1930 and Anna died on  Mar.2,1949.They were members of the St. Fridolin Evangelical Church of New Schwanden and They are all buried in the St. Fridolin Cemetery of New Schwanden, Hennepin County,Champlin,MN.

ZIMMERMANN, John Henry  was born on Apr.23,1823 at Engi, Switzerland and was married to Rosina Shanz about1858 also from Switzerland and came to New Schwanden around 1860 and had land in the Brooklyn Township area. John Henry was a Brother to Margaretha Blesi wife of Peter Blesi. There are no tracings of a extended family or children born of this union. Henry died on Mar.5,1891 and Rosina died on Apr.21,1905. They are both buried in the St. Fridolin Cemetery of  New Schwanden, Hennepin County, Champlin, MN. also known as the New Schwanden (Swiss) Cemetery of Champlin, MN

ZIRBES, William was born in Germany, March 24, 1836. Came to America in 1858 and to St. Anthony. He bought the farm where he now lives ; it is beautifully located on Twin Lakes. In 1864 he enlisted in company E, Eleventh Minnesota Infantry Volunteers, and served till the close of the war. In 1866 he was married to Miss Kate Staffes. Their children are Fannie and Julia.

Balthasar and Rachel Zopfi

ZOPFI, Balthasar was born in Schwanden, Switzerland on Mar.13,1841.He came to New Schwanden, MN. in 1860 and settled on land on the east side of Mud Lake in the Maple Grove Township. He married Regula (Rachel) Blesi sister of Peter Blesi on Oct. 5,1863 who also came to New Schwanden, MN in 1860.The Zopfi Family History book tells that when they lived in Schwanden, Switzerland he looked down his nose at Regula because he felt that she was beneath him in sature. There were not many women in New Schwanden and Regula got to look so good to him that he married her. There were 13 children born of this union adding to the increase of the families in this Swiss Community. Balthasar died on Jan.3, 1903 and Rachel (Regula) Zopfi died on May 30, 1935.They are both buried in St. Fridolin Cemetery also known as the New Schwanden (Swiss) Cemetery Champlin, Hennepin County, Minnesota.

Fridolin Zopfi

ZOPFI, Fridolin came from Schwanden, Switzerland. He married Katharine nee Marti of Engi, Switzerland. They came  to America and landed at New Orleans on Jan.15,  1854  Their son John was born on that day they arrived in New Orleans, LA. There were no other children born of this union. They came to New Schwanden and settled in March of 1855. Fridolin died in 1895 at the age of 72 and his wife Katharine died in 1891 at the age of 67. They both are buried in the St. Fridolin Cemetery.

John Zopfi

ZOPFI, John  was born on Jan.15,1854 when His Parents Fridolin and Anna Katharine nee Marti Zopfi landed at New Orleans the day they arrived in America. John married Anna Blesi on Dec.16,1877 Daughter of  Fridolin and Katharine nee Streiff Blesi born on Feb.18,1860 in St. Paul, MN. They had farm land in the Maple Grove Township in the New Schwanden area located on what is now known as Zachary Ln. No. and 115th Ave. No. John went to Switzerland in 1882 for a visit and returned with pine seeds or pine seedlings. There is a row of Swiss pine trees on the farm land and 2 Pine trees in the St. Fridolin Cemetery of New Schwanden. MN. There were 2 children born of this union. 1. Katharine born on Sep.30,1879 who married Nicholas Zopfi of a distant Zopfi line and farmed the Fridolin Zopfi homestead  in Champlin Township of New Schwanden, MN. 2. Fred Zopfi born on Dec.18,1882 married Agatha Zopfi Daughter of Mathias and Agatha nee Streiff and moved to Wibeau, MT.

ZOPFI, Mathias
was born on Jun.10,1834 at Schwanden, Switzerland son of Johannes and Elisbeth nee Schmid Zopfi. Mathias was a brother to Fridolin Zopfi who came earlier in 1855 to New Schwanden, MN. In 1857 he married Agatha nee Strieff born on May 21,1839 and came to the New Schwanden Swiss Community of Champlin Township about 1859 and lived on land what is now located on 109th Ave. No. and west of the old Jefferson Road or Broadway. There were 6 children born of this union. 1.Agatha born in 1863 and in 1881 married ________ Ebert and died in 1882 and is buried in St. Fridolin Cemetery of New Schwanden, 2. Katharina born 1863 died in 1864 buried in the St. Fridolin Cemetery, 3. Fridolin "Fred" born in 1866 died in 1953 and is buried in the Niggler Cemetery at Osseo, MN.,4. Anna Barbara born & died in 1868 and buried in St, Fridolin Cemetery., 5. Maria born 1870 , 6. Rose Amanda born in 1872 died in 1965 and is buried in the Crystal Lake Cemetery of Brooklyn Center, MN. There were two more generations that followed after Mathias Zopfi.

ZOPFI, Rudolf, was born in Schwanden, Switzerland on Sep.28,1797. He was a nephew of Fridolin Zopfi who settled in Champlin Township in 1855. When Rudolf's wife died he built a small log Cabin on Fridolin Zopfi's farm driveway and Hayden Lake road in the wooded area. His cabin caught fire and perished with all his belongings on Dec,23,1879. He is buried in the St.Fridolin's Cemetery of New Schwanden,Champlin,MN.
